  • More information on the visited country

Brazil –with this term one associates endless Amazon jungle, wonderful beaches, Rio de Janeiro, carnival and samba. This is all correct but in reality, Brazil is much more, a huge country of the superlatives. Brazil, a country of immense proportions and contrasts, has a mysterious attraction for many people. With a surface of 8,5 million km², Brazil is approximately as large as Europe and covers half of the South American continent. The climate changes from the permanent warm, tropic north over all sub tropic variants to the moderate south. Since the 16th century – when the Portuguese began to settle in the country – Brazil has always had a magic attraction for foreigners. First there was the gold and then rubber and coffee and today it is above all the rhythm and the exotic that attracts tourists. The Brazilian people show a lot of happiness, kindness and spontaneity. The largest country of South America is a mirror of fascinating pictures.

More information on the visited cities:

Rio de Janeiro- Founded in 1556, the city of St. Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro became the capital of the Colony of Brazil in 1776. In 1808 the Portuguese royal family fled Napoleon and settled in Rio. This brought a surge of progress and the city became the main cultural, political and economic centre of the Portuguese empire. In 1889, when the republic was proclaimed, Rio was confirmed as the country’s capital, which it remained until 1960, when construction of the capital, Brasilia, was completed. Rio is situated on a 24 kilometre strip of land, wedged between mountains and sea. There are some 48 kilometres separating downtown Flamengo, from far-flung Recreio, bordered on one side by the blue sea, on the other by verdant hills. Surrounded by natural beauty, with Christ the Redeemer perched on top of the Corcovado, a visit to Brazil is not complete without a stay in Rio de Janeiro.

Iguassu – One of the biggest wonders of nature in South America: locate amidst a sub-tropical forest and the triangle of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, a gigantic row of waterfalls flows down into the river Iguassu.

Manaus- the capital of Amazonas state and the hub of the whole Amazon Region. It lies on the shore of Rio Negro, 6 Km (4mi) far from the point where the Negro River meets the Solimoes River to form the Brazilian Amazon River. The city underwent a great development in the second half of the 19th century when it became the rubber boomtown, in part because of the invention of the process of vulcanization. It swiftly transformed into a European-like capital, it was the first Brazilian city to have trolley buses and the second to have electric illumination in the streets. In the beginning of the 20th century, the Manaus rubber market collapsed and the city declined into poverty. Nowadays, Manaus is a busy commercial centre, after having been transformed into a Free Trade Zone in 1966.

Salvador da Bahia- is called by Brazilians “The Land of Happiness” because life there is a constant celebration of happiness. It is also called “The Land of All Saints”, not only for its location by the All Saints Bay, but also for the deep and extensive mysticism of its people. Salvador is one of the most fascinating cities on the planet, a world of beauty, magic, traditions and warm hospitality. It has its own special identity, almost a country within itself. The city is bounded by the ocean to the east and by All Saints Bay to the south.
