Colombia & The Lost City

  • Day 1 BOGOTA

    Upon your arrival in Bogota, our representative will meet and transfer you to your accommodation

    Day 2 BOGOTA (B)

    After breakfast, you will leave for a full day tour of Zipaquira and Guatavita. This tour will leave early in the morning and cross some beautiful sites. From La Calera, we can stop so you can have a panoramic view of Bogota. We will then continue and stop to visit the peculiar population of Nueva Guatavita, a small village with unique architecture located behind the Dam of Tomine, from this point we will continue to visit Lake Guatavita, where you will hear about the legend of El Dorado. We will then continue our trip to Zipaquira, where you will visit the amazing Salt Cathedral, the place is located 180 m underground, and consists of a full cathedral built with salt inside a salt mine. Return to your hotel.

    Day 3 BOGOTA (B – L)

    After breakfast we will leave for a excursion of Montserrat Sanctuary. This tour begins by crossing the Montserrat Hill, and then we reach the most visited sanctuary in Bogota (by cable car). Once we reach the top of the sanctuary, we will be surrounded by the Andean jungle, there you will have time to enjoy of the views of the city and if you want you can shop for souvenirs.

    When we return to the city we will visit the historical and cultural area of Bogota, including: the National Palace, The Cathedral, The Justice Palace, and the house of 20th of July (where the Independence Proclamation was made).

    A typical lunch is included during the tour. Return to you hotel

    Day 4 BOGOTA – SANTA MARTA (B – L – D)

    Breakfast, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Santa Marta (not included). Upon arrival, transfer to your accommodation, Finca de la Jorara.

    Day 5 LOST CITY TREKKING (B – L – D)

    This magical place is sacred because it managed to defeat time and come back from oblivion. Today it is again a place of important indigenous celebrations. The climb to the Lost City reveals at each dawn a new landscape, a new climate, a new sensation, a new world. You will feel the ambience of the place and the value of having lived a great ancient cultural experience.

    Departure from La Jorara to the Mamey Region. Transfer up in a small truck that will take approximately 3 hours. From Mamey , a small country village, the hike will start and ascends through lush green jungle until reaching the first camp place.

    Day 6 LOST CITY TREKKING (B – L – D)

    After an early breakfast we continue the hike climbing until we see a valley, from here we descend into a small valley formed by the Buritaca river, we will see indigenous people and walk between their houses clustered in a small native Indian town known as Mutanyi. We will set up our camp after a good day of hiking.

    Day 7 LOST CITY TREKKING (B – L – D)

    Breakfast at 6:30 am and early departure at 7am, the hike starts entering different grounds of the Indian reservation Kogi-Arsario and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta national park, passing several Indian houses and in some place you will see traces left by the ancient inhabitants of the region.

    Day 8 LOST CITY TREKKING (B – L – D)

    We will be visiting Teyuna. The Ceremonial houses from the present native Indians. Beside the indigenous culture, you will discover spectacular vegetation and landscape.

    Day 9 LOST CITY TREKKING – SANTA MARTA (B – L – D)

    Breakfast at 06:30 am, as we need to take the time to enjoy the morning in the natural environment and to return to Finca La Jorara where we will spend the night.

    Day 10 SANTA MARTA – COFFEE TRIANGLE (B)

    Transfer out to take the flight to Pereira (not included), in the Coffee triangle. Meet at airport and transfer to your hotel.

    Day 11 COFFEE TRIANGLE (B – L)

    After breakfast you will be picked up to start the Valle del Cocora & Salento tour. During the trip you will enjoy beautiful views of the coffee triangle. Once we arrive at our first destination, you will be served a welcome drink – Canelazo. The “Canelazo” is a typical drink of Colombia, there are many variations of the recipe but normally is it made with fruit juice, aguardiente, and cloves. Sometimes they make a non-alcoholic version. You can then visit the Cocora Valle walking or horse-hiding, in this place you will learn about the fauna and the flora of the region. On our return we will do an ecological walk to learn more about the palm trees in the region, considered the highest trees in the world. The tree is a national symbol in Colombia, and you will learn more about how the indigenous people used to idolise this tree. At the agreed time we will continue our tour to Salento, where we will visit the Plaza de Bolivar (main square), and get to discover more about the colourful houses in the place. Return to your accommodation.

    Day 12 COFFEE TRIANGLE (B)

    After breakfast we will leave the hotel to visit the Genova farm. In this farm you will get to learn more about the process of coffee. This farm is more than 120 years old, and is located in a place where you can have amazing views of the coffee region. You will receive a lot of information from one of the farm personnel and will learn the process of coffee production. At the end of the visit you can have a degustation of the coffee.

    Day 13 COFFEE TRIANGLE – BOGOTA

    Early morning transfer to the airport to board your flight to Bogota (not included). Extension tours can be organised through our office.
